Projects by the Arctic Council working groups

Through the Arctic Council Project Support Instrument (PSI) NEFCO finances activities that contribute to energy efficiency, sustainable use of resources, pollution mitigation and a positive impact on communities in the Arctic region. These may include, among others, project identification and concept development, feasibility studies, environmental impact assessments, and specific measures in the implementation phase of demonstration projects.

Sustainability in the Barents region

In 2003, NEFCO and the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme (AMAP) mapped out 42 environmental so-called “hot spots”, in the Barents Region, environmental problem areas which require specific measures of protection and action are taken. The Barents Hot Spots Facility (BHSF) finances technical assistance to address these. The support is typically related to the financing of key pre-feasibility and feasibility studies.
