NEFCO Global Facility

What?

NEFCO can provide loans or equity to Nordic Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) for green investments in countries outside its core countries of operation. The purpose of this financing instrument is to enable Nordic SMEs within the environmental and climate sectors to invest in and develop business activities on international markets where growth opportunities have been identified. In certain cases, large Nordic companies can also be considered for funding.

NEFCO’s financing under this scheme is offered to a Nordic company for investments in a subsidiary or an affiliated company that will be established or is already operating in an eligible project country as described below. Typical funded projects could relate to investments in facilities, machinery, equipment or technology needed for production or business development in the project country.

The maximum financing per project under NEFCO Global is normally EUR 2.5 million. The funding is provided as loans on market terms, but equity investments can also be considered.

Can I apply for funding?

Yes, if you are a Nordic small or medium-sized company providing environmentally sustainable products or services with at least three years of operational history and are planning an international investment.

The project to be funded shall be located outside NEFCO’s core countries of operation (Armenia, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Russia and Ukraine) and outside the EU and EEA (European Economic Area).

The following EU member countries are however an exception to the above and can be considered for financing from NEFCO Global: Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.

NEFCO requires borrowers to meet reasonable financial criteria, but the primary focus is on the positive environmental impacts of the project. In addition to the environmental aspects, NEFCO always examines the technical feasibility and financial profitability of all financed projects.
